Power Transmission & Power Distribution
A power transmission network is a network that carries the electric power from a power generating plant (solar, wind) to the substations that deliver the power to the consumers. At the power generating plant, the electric power is “stepped up” to several thousand volts by transmission transformers and delivered to the substations via transmission lines.
A power distribution network delivers the electric power to the consumers. The power distribution network receives electric power from the transmission network which is “stepped down” at substations to required consumer voltage by distribution transformers and delivered to the consumers via distribution lines.
The transmission and distribution networks together are known as “Power Grid” or just “Grid”.
